A MOTHER-of-four had to be flown from Gympie to the Gold Coast, bypassing two major Brisbane hospitals, after suffering serious head injuries in a fight.

Kirra McLoughlin, 27, died the next day, with homicide police now assisting Wide Bay Burnett district police in their investigation.

Queensland Health Retrieval Services acting senior director Dr Peter Aitken said the QCC medical co-ordinator decided an intensive care unit bed at a hospital with neurosurgical capability was required as of the four public adult hospitals in Queensland that have the necessary neurosurgical capability, the nearest immediately available ICU bed was at the Gold Coast University Hospital.

Wolvi local Ms McLoughlin was in a critical but stable condition when she was flown to the Gold Coast but she died on Friday.

A post-mortem has now been conducted as part of police investigations.

It is understood she may have lain in a Wolvi home where the fight occured for more than 12 hours before emergency services were called.

The community of Wolvi has been shaken by the 27-year-old’s apparent violent death at her Beenham Valley Road home.

Goomboorian Playalong Activity Centre director Anna Doyle said she felt for Kirra’s four children, all under eight.

“It’s sad they are going to live without their mum and live without the person we knew,” she said.

“She was very bubbly, contagiously happy. She was just really known for her massive smile, a big beautiful smile she had on all the time.”

It is understood Kirra’s four children are now being cared for by their father.

One local said the community was “up in arms” over her death.

Her family said her four children, some of who go to the local Wolvi primary school and are believed to be under seven years of age, were still yet to be told of the tragedy.

Jay Arthur paid tribute to his “longest and dearest friend” Kirra.

“We grew up together and I was just a part of your family - and as you were an only child I became like your brother and we had so many defining and powerful moments in our lives together,” he wrote on social media.

“I will miss you terribly and the thought of not sitting around as old ducks together watching many grand kids play and reminiscing on so many memories. will and grace was our favourite show as we picture this would be how our adult life would be and our bond was just so strong.

“You meant so much to me and am just devastated on what has happened to you. You deserved so much more and to watch your kids grow and to have this taken from you is beyond words.”

He promised to watch over her four young children and to support Kirra’s family.

“I will watch them grown and help mould they’re personalities into amazing humans beings - as your family and yourself did for me. I love you and will forever love you, and I know you will be with me always.”

Up to six people have been interviewed over the incident but no charges have been laid.

Investigations are continuing.
