The RSPCA is investigating after a kangaroo joey was reportedly shoved into an Australia Post post box this morning on the Gold Coast.
The chance discovery came when an early morning walker heard scratching from the nearby postbox about 6.40am, using her phone to peek inside and make the unfortunate discovery.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services were quickly called to the rescue.
An RSPCA spokesman said they have lodged a cruelty complaint and will be looking into the matter.
RSPCA Inspector Summer Heath-Crilley said: “The act of actually placing that joey is quite barbaric.
“I have no idea why anyone would think this is funny in any way; they’ve obviously not thought of the welfare of this joey.”
After blood tests and X-rays, the joey - dubbed Wonder - is now on the mend in the care of wildlife rescuers.
