Erin Holland has weighed in on Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s India travel ban as cricketer husband Ben Cutting isolates in the country, keeping the couple apart three months after their wedding.

Cutting and fellow Australian Pat Cummins face a nervous wait in lockdown in their Indian hotel after two players inside the IPL bubble tested positive for COVID-19 this week.

The Australian Government has paused all travel from India until May 15, meaning they aren’t allowed to return home, which drew criticism from cricket great Michael Slater.

Holland, who just wrapped filming reality series SAS Australia, hasn’t seen Cutting since he left to play overseas two days after their wedding in February.

“I think the Prime Minister did what he thought he had to do. It’s really upsetting, absolutely, and now I’m dealing with this personally, but I think I can see both sides of the fence,” Holland today’s 2Day’s The Morning Crew with Hughesy, Ed & Erin on Tuesday.

“If there was an obvious right answer I think we’d be making it.”

The model said Cutting woke up to a text message confirming a teammate who he trains in the gym with regularly had tested positive and was now awaiting results of his latest test, which he took around 10 hours ago.

“The way it’s operating at the moment is the playing eleven have a different operating schedule to the rest of the guys in the squad and unfortunately someone from the playing eleven and the rest of the squad have both tested positive, so there is a real chance that Ben and the rest of the boys have been exposed,” she told the breakfast radio show.

“They’re currently sitting in their hotel rooms in India in full lockdown within the bubble just waiting to hear if their latest tests come back positive or negative. It’s pretty scary.

“A guy he goes to the gym with pretty regularly is one of the ones that tested positive so he’s a little bit nervous, waiting.

“There’s a lot of panic among the guys, which you can completely appreciate, but on the same note they did elect to go over there, they did know the risk.”

Before arriving in India, the Brisbane cricketer had previously been living as a refugee in Dubai after COVID-19 also shutdown the Pakistan Super League tournament he was playing in after leaving Australia.

Holland said he had committed to playing overseas until mid-August but they now were uncertain as to when he could return home.

“I know he’s in a good place and I know they have the means to really support the guys should something really serious happen, so I do feel comfortable knowing that he will be looked after but I guess the hardest part is now not really knowing when he is coming home,” she said.

“As a freelance cricketer this is how he makes his money and we kind of knew we were in for a long stretch apart.

“He left two days after our wedding in February this year and I’m like our first year of marriage could be completely separate at this rate.

She added: “He just turned 34, he’s nearing the end of his career. We both decided it was worth the risk in order for him to play out the last couple of years of his career.”
