THINK you got a good deal on your house?
One homeowner in Grantham is giving away his family house for just the cost of site clearing and removing it.
The owner of the house, Sean Hook, has already begun construction of a house in the new housing estate on the hill above the flood-affected town.
"I'm only giving it away on the proviso the block will be cleared under the council's requirements of the land swap," he said.
"The block would need to be cleared by the end of April."
A second house is being sold and relocated for $70,000 and clearing costs or for free if the clearing cost is covered for three blocks.
The free options for both houses involve the acquirer settling the relocation costs with a removalist and if needed in addition, a site clearing contractor.
The Hook family's house was damaged by the floodwaters that tore through Grantham a year ago.
Mr Hook said the house would require repair work and could be moved to a new site where it could be fixed.
The removal of the two houses is being supported by the Lockyer Valley Flood Recovery Volunteers, who are hoping to see the houses saved from destruction.
Volunteer Alex Peters said he hoped the houses could be moved instead of being torn down.
"Grantham houses being relocated instead of demolished is a joy to watch and both owners are open to outside-of-the-square solutions," he said.
While some houses have been moved into the new housing estate from the old location of Grantham, many residents have opted to construct new houses.
Mr Hook said a number of them were forced to abandon their family home with payouts from their insurance not forthcoming before deadlines to transfer onto "the hill".
