A new childcare centre with capacity for 130 children will be built on a Redbank Plains property if approval is granted by Ipswich City Council, but plans for an accompanying swim school on the same site were ditched.

Onefin Red Plains Pty Ltd has lodged a development application for the facility to be constructed on land over 69-71 Willow Road.

Approval is being sought to split the 6162 m2 site in the fast-growing suburb in the city’s south east.

If approval is granted, it will be built on a 6162 m2 site on Willow Road.

A house already on the property will remain on the western section of the land, with the childcare centre and 46 car parks built on the rest.

The application noted the 1030m2 one-storey facility would need 24 full-time staff and have a capacity of 130 children.

A total of 973 m2 has been set aside as outdoor play space.

The centre, which is close to both Redbank Plains State High School and Redbank Plains State school, is proposed to operate from 6am to 6pm Monday to Friday.

The site is already mostly cleared of vegetation.

“The proposed child care centre provides a service for the growing residential catchment and future employment node to enable care within a walkable area,” the application noted.

“The site is suitably co-located with existing community facilities.

“The centre will services the needs of the immediate residential catchment.”

A pre-lodgement meeting was held with council officers in June.

The application noted plans for a swim school as part of the development were dropped following advice received at the meeting.
