Where can you get Covid vaccine in Ipswich? New Covid-19 vaccination hub opening in Ipswich CBD

The new centre is being opened in response to growing demand for vaccinations from local residents. The number of jabs being delivered was lagging behind other parts of Queensland with smaller population bases.

A NEW Covid-19 vaccination hub will open in Ipswich next week as the number of jabs administered in the city cracked the 20,000 mark.

The vaccination centre will open in the former Harvey Norman showroom in the CBD on Tuesday.

It is accessible via the mall, which is now called the Nicholas Street Precinct.

Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said the opening of two new centres - with the other on the Gold Coast - was in response to growing demand for vaccinations from local residents.

To date, 20,964 vaccine doses have been administered by West Moreton Health with all but about 1000 of those being delivered at the Ipswich Hospital.

Just over 400 jabs were given at the hospital on Friday.

More than 43,000 jabs have been administered in Townsville, with 71,000 delivered on the Sunshine Coast, 26,400 on the Darling Downs and 21,400 in Central Queensland.

“As more Queenslanders come forward for vaccination, the Palaszczuk Government is continuing to grow its network of COVID-19 vaccination hubs,” she said.

“We’re pleased to be able to provide this service to the Ipswich and Gold Coast communities to enhance their access to the free COVID-19 vaccine.

“Subject to supply from the Commonwealth, we’re continuing to roll out community-based vaccination locations across Queensland.

“Thank you to all those Queenslanders who have come forward to get vaccinated so far.

“Vaccination is our best chance of beating this pandemic.”

Ipswich MP Jennifer Howard encouraged eligible residents to come forward and get their jab.

“This new centre is an important part of our fight against Covid,” she said.

Its opening will come a few days after a new purpose-built fever clinic at the Ipswich Hospital opened to the public.

A fever clinic has operated from the Jubilee Building opposite the emergency department entrance since March last year but that space will revert to clinical use.

The new clinic is located on Court Street near the East Street entrance and it started welcoming people on Saturday morning.

In order to access the state government’s vaccination centres, people must register their interest and they will then be invited to make an appointment.
