“There was glass and alcohol everywhere”: Shocking footage of teenage girls being pinned down by shoppers and security guards have emerged after a wild citizen’s arrest in Ipswich.

Shocking footage has emerged of a wild citizen’s arrest at an Ipswich shopping centre after two teenagers allegedly went on a shoplifting spree and assaulted a security guard yesterday.

Video footage of the altercation — witnessed by at least one young child — was posted to social media, which shows one teenage girl screaming at a security guard to free her before she appears to faint.

However, soon after, she began slamming her head into a door while screaming.

A different young woman can be seen trying to run away from the commotion, but she was quickly tackled by a shopper in a high-visibility shirt and pinned to the ground with the help of a woman.

A third irate teen seen in the footage was also detained by a man holding her tight by the hand and wrist.

Glass and Bundaberg rum was left strewn across the shopping centre floor in the aftermath.

A witness said he was shopping at Lowes when he heard someone yell “stop”.

He said he then turned around and saw two girls “tear past” the shop in an attempt to flee. They were allegedly holding two bottles of stolen rum.

“They just came screaming past … and I went out to see what was happening,” he said.

“There was glass and alcohol everywhere. The whole place smelt like a brewery.

“They were swinging around glass bottles. Something like that shouldn’t happen, it’s dangerous.

“Even the shop owners started closing up because it was getting out of control.”

The man said he left the scene and continued to shop but could still hear the teens screaming and hollering for about 10 minutes.

A police spokeswoman said that yesterday a 15-year-old girl was charged with two counts of stealing and a 17-year-old girl was charged with the serious assault of a security guard over 60, threatening violence, and stealing.

They were both denied bail and will appear in court at a later date.
