Treasures live again on upcycle

CONVERTING old items into one-of-a-kind treasures, or upcycling, has become a passion of Kalbar business owner Rachel Glover.

REMEMBER that old suitcase in the garage?

Don't throw it away. It could be your new cupboard.

Converting old items into one-of-a-kind treasures, or upcycling, has become a passion of Kalbar business owner Rachel Glover.

Ms Glover runs the store Paddy O'Furniture, full of furniture and homewares made from old products.

Records have been turned into bowls, coasters and clocks, ladders into staircases, bike seats into clocks and 1960s water skis into tables.

"It is all about upcycling, turning things into something else," she said.

"I make all the furniture and most of the homewares myself. It's all in a '60s style that I just love."

Ms Glover opened her store at the start of the year and has already gained a strong following from across the south-east corner.

"I get people coming here from everywhere; from the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Logan as well as locals from Kalbar and Boonah.

"People just love it, it's been so popular. Recycled items are becoming so popular with people.

"It's really green, which people just love."

Her table made with water skis has been put up as the prize for a raffle to raise money for a Kalbar youth skate park.

"The skate park is something the kids really need here in town," Ms Glover said.

"They skate by the shop and they're so good, but they just need somewhere to call their own."

The raffle will be drawn on Saturday, June 30.
