A magistrate has slammed a woman’s “disgraceful” behaviour after she repeatedly took money from the elderly mother of her boyfriend.

Tracey Massey, 48, appeared in the Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, November 15 pleading guilty to two counts of fraud.

Police prosecutor sergeant Brad Dick told the court Massey was living with her partner and his mother in Woodend where she was helping to care for the 72-year-old woman.

“She was helping with day to day living challenges,” he said.

“This included running errands and shopping.”

The court heard the elderly woman became suspicious in January after receiving overdraft warnings on two credit cards.

She reviewed the transactions, finding multiple cash withdrawals and online shopping purchases she didn’t authorise between September 30 and January 28.

Sgt Dick said Massey had a history of committing dishonesty offences and had defrauded the woman a total of $1873.19 over the four-month period.

The act was slammed as “disgraceful breach of trust” by Magistrate Dennis Kinsella who said Massey was facing the possibility of jail.

She will return for sentencing on February 10.
