AFTER being left in a plastic bag in a Lake Clarendon tip, a single puppy who survived has turned out to be worth nearly $1000.
Nibbler, as she's been named, has been reared by Rosewood rescue group Jaws n Paws carer Jenny Savage.
Ms Savage said while she initially believed the puppy to be a kelpie or rottweiler, Nibbler is actually a pure bred King Charles cavalier.
"Without papers she'd be worth around $800," she said. "She's just thriving now. She's so healthy and so cute.
"What were they doing dumping them?
"I couldn't believe it when we realised what she was."
Ms Savage said the holiday period was one of the busiest times for animal rescue groups across the region.
"We have all been swamped with dogs and cats so all groups are in need of food, pet items and cash donations to help all these groups to continue doing a wonderful service for their communities," she said.
Rescue groups exist in Ipswich, Rosewood, Laidley and Coominya.
Ms Savage said she discouraged people from giving pets as gifts.
"We try not to give pets to people who are going to give them away as gifts without talking to the person who will be receiving them.
"Or else there's the risk they'll be unwanted and dumped on the side of the road somewhere."
