A new child care centre with capacity for 113 kids has been proposed in Ipswich on the site which housed one of Australia’s largest disability service providers.

Azza Investments Pty Ltd has submitted a development application to Ipswich City Council for 28 Thornton Street in Raceview.

The application is signed off by company director Yunus Omar, who is the part-owner of Kids Early Learning Centres.

The site housed the Endeavour Foundation Learning Centre.

Kids Early Learning Centres already operates a dozen centres in Brisbane, Logan, Moreton Bay, north Queensland and Goodna.

The green light was also given for a new child care centre in the Ecco Ripley estate in July.

The application noted the building and car park already on the 4066 m2 Raceview site will be renovated and expanded for the proposed centre.

The land was home to the Endeavour Foundation Learning Centre and had been approved for a different child care centre development in 2019.

The facility would have a total gross floor area of 614 m2.

“The renovation involves modifications to the internal layout of the existing building with an extension to the rear, new outdoor play spaces adjoining the existing building and further to the rear, a minor extension of the existing car park and additional landscaping,” the application noted.

“The Endeavour Foundation has since vacated the site and sold it to the applicant.”

Houses adjoin the land to the north, east and south.

The one-storey facility would have a total gross floor area of 614 m2, with 28 car parks planned.

It is proposed to operate between 6.30am and 6.30pm and 13 staff members will be required.

“The proposed child care centre has been designed to incorporate the existing building on site and complement the built form of the surrounding residential area,” the application noted.

“Acoustic barriers will be provided around the periphery of the development to ensure residential amenity is maintained, in addition to restricted outdoor play and delivery hours.”
