THE finest talents of Fernvale will be on display this weekend as part of the Environment and Heritage Festival.
The Brisbane Valley Sounds Talent Quest will be hearing from the region's best amateur singers and bands at the festival at the Fernvale Memorial Park on Saturday.
The quest is part of the wider Environment and Heritage Festival that will celebrate the people and the places that make up the Brisbane Valley region.
The festival will see displays of both environmental and heritage themes, tree planting, stalls, heritage displays children's activities and historical re-enactments.
The talent quest will be one of the highlights of the day, with singers and bands from across the Somerset region preparing to battle for more than $1000 in prizes.
The festival is being organised by the Fernvale Events Committee and the Lions Club or Fernvale.
Lions president Peter Bennett said the event would be one to remember.
"There will be some great things throughout the day," he said.
"The talent quest will be great, there will be some talented local people performing."
Mr Bennett said the festival and the talent quest were planned to become an annual showcase for the region's best musicians.
"This will be the first one and will become a yearly event.
"It's going to be fantastic; we're hoping to make it a real attraction for Fernvale."
A "great train race" for children, involving the kids wearing cardboard trains of their own creation, will also take place during the day.
Entrants in the talent quest must be residents of the Somerset region and over 16 years of age.
The Fernvale Environment and Heritage Festival will take place this Saturday at the Fernvale Memorial Park from 10am to 4pm, with the talent quest commencing from 11am.
