A LOCAL music teacher is this weekend set to join his band mates as the Suicide Swans release their third album La Jungla in Ipswich.

After the launch on Saturday night at Studio 188, the five piece will head off on tour to promote the album, with shows planned in Newcastle, Sydney, Melbourne and country Victoria.

Suicide Swans guitarist and Bremer State High School music teacher Morgan Hann says the band's strength lies in the fact the five members are spread across Toowoomba, Ipswich and Brisbane andmeans they do not live in each other's pockets.

"We don't get as many chances to rehearse as much as we'd like but we are all pretty close," Mr Hann said.

There are sections of jamming when it could go anywhere but as we all know the structure of the songs we have that ability to experiment a bit live.

"That was the whole focus of this album as the first few times you play a song you don't know well, it's magic. Then you try to recreate those first few times you played it."

Lead singer and writer Kyle Jenkins' connections came in very useful when it came to recording.

"Kyle is a writing machine. He's already written enough for the next two albums and he's not precious about them, which is good. We had about 30 songs for this album in total.

"The album was recorded completely live at USQ in Toowoomba and as Kyle works there he was able to get hold of their lecture theatre. Weset up on a Friday night, then Saturday morning started recording. By Saturday night, the album was all done, all in 13 hours."

Suicide Swans don't like to categorise their music. Every album is different, as Morgan explained.

"The first album we put out was straight alternative country, the second was more rock, and with La Jungla it is what the boys in the band are calling 'cosmic country'.

"It's alternative country, a bit of rock in there with some blues thrown in. It's hard to categorise, but the last song on the album I think goes right back to our country roots."
