Peak hour traffic on a major Somerset thoroughfare has been slowed as commuters dodge a pile of grain on the road.

Police are controlling traffic at the Brisbane Valley Highway in Coominya, 1.5km from the meatworks after debris fell from the back of a truck.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said the large pile of grain was impacting lanes in both directions.

“The pile is about 100m long and about a foot high,” the spokeswoman said.

“It looks like it has been lost or dumped.”

The incident was reported to police at 3.45am.

“We will call someone to do a clean up for it and then once that’s been done, we’ll open the roads again,” the spokeswoman said.
