RACING continued at the Ipswich track under strict Covid guidelines today with essential personnel only trackside.
Closing the gates to the general public, including owners, is one of the downsides but the process has ensured racing has continued.
Fields were small due to the seasonal change with two-and three-year old’s coming through the ranks.
Only six races were on the Ipswich card to start the 2021-22 racing season.
Back in class this week proved worthwhile for the Barry-Baldwin trained Nordicus.
Having some recent good form in town, he came up short last start to finish sixth but this week was back on top for regular jockey Taylor Marshall in the Class 4 1200m.
The former Anthony Cummings trained gelding has found his feet in Queensland since relocating here over the winter. He has clocked up three wins for his new trainer.
San Bernardino broke his maiden at his 35th attempt but not without some good recent runs at Ipswich.
In a tight finish, the six-year-old finally found the winner’s circle for trainer Kenneth Deacon showing persistence does win.
In his previous five starts, he has finished in the placing on four occasions.
Today’s win was ridden by Brooke Ainsworth.
Vale Doug Graham
THE staff at the Ipswich Turf Club send their condolences to the family of Doug Graham who recently passed away.
Doug worked at the club for nearly a decade welcoming trainers and strappers to the track at the horse stalls.
He was a master at ensuring the stall allocations were in check and will be sorely missed at the track.
Future Ipswich meetings
RACING continues in August on Friday the 13th, 20th and 25th to launch the new season.
