Fassifern stalwart deserves highest honour

BEING afforded life membership of an organisation that has been a large part of your life is one of the biggest honours that could be awarded.

That is what has been presented to a man that bleeds Maroon at the Fassifern Junior Rugby League Club.

Craig Harsant is the deserved recipient.

After looking at the commitments he has given to the club, you will realise that no one can argue with this award.

Harsant has been a player, trainer, coach and coaching director of the junior Bombers for more than 40 years.

Harsant is also involved with the senior club as a trainer and was a part of the last week's premiership-winning Bombers outfit.

He has also been involved with several representative teams over the years.

I have known him for many years and you will not find a more decent person to have teaching and treating young kids.

Congratulations Craig.

Serena should apologise

ONE is regarded as the best umpire in world tennis and the other is one of the greatest female players of all time.

So who go it right in the biggest blow-up we have seen for many years?

Serena Williams' fans will say she did and the umpire was being too harsh on her. But umpire Carlos Ramos, a man considered around the world as one of the greatest, did everything correctly and by the book.

Williams called him a thief, sexiest and asked for an apology.

The only apology that needs to be given is by Williams to Ramos.

The ITF has come out with full support of Carlos and I am sure that many people agree with them.

While Williams should apologise to the umpire, she should also send one towards the US Open women's champion - 20 year old Naomi Osaka, from a country that has never won a major title.

Osaka played her heart out and completely gave Williams a tennis lesson. However, her big moment was hijacked by a veteran who should know better.

TOUGHNESS in rugby league players goes hand in hand from the John Sattler broken jaw to the fractured eye socket Sam Burgess suffered.
