A TEAM that fights for every point and on every play.

That is what to expect in 2016 now that Brothers legend Jason Connors is at the helm as the head coach at the Ipswich Rugby League (IRL) powerhouse club.

Connors was appointed after David High stepped down from the role due to business reasons.

Connors, who played Queensland Cup for Easts Tigers and Norths Devils before joining Brothers in 2010, is an insider.

The 32-year-old knows Brothers inside and out.

He played in five grand finals and won premierships in 2011 and 2013.

Connors is the Brothers junior coaching co-ordinator where he works on the juniors' development programs.

An outstanding playmaker in his own right, he intends to bring the same fighting qualities he displayed with the boots on to his coaching.

"I like to instil the idea that every player is a competitor," he said.

"You have to fight for every point and on every play.

"If you have that 'never give up' attitude you are going to be there or thereabouts.

"Most of the boys are coming back next year so I am pretty confident in what we have got."

Connors has a strong relationship with the players and is a Brothers man through and through.

"I'm excited about the role because I am still in touch with the boys," he said.

"A lot of the same players are still around and we have the same style of play and the same structure.

"I know what to expect and I know what to bring to the club.

"I am not playing so it is a different chapter in my career. Of all the clubs I have played for, Brothers is the one where I have felt at home.

"It has a great vibe about it, good facilities, they look after your players and I have a good bond with all the players."

Connors has brought on board good friend Wade Liddell as an assistant coach.

"That makes it a bit more special because I played with Wade at Easts and he had one year here with us."

Brothers club president Mark Hennelly said Connors was the ideal man to come in after High's premature departure.

"I was looking forward to a year with somebody fresh and who didn't have anything to do with the club, but that wasn't to be," Hennelly said.

"But I am very excited about Jason taking over because he has got a tremendous rapport with a lot of our players. He knows a lot of our juniors and he is an integral part of the club.

"Jason has been our captain and our driving playmaker.

"It is a win-win for the players, the club and the footy team.

"He was the type of player who would put his body on the line and I think he will have the same commitment as a coach. He will put 110% in and the expectations are that the players will do the same."
