A prominent married businessman from a Somerset Region town subjected his former lover to ‘vindictive and nasty’ abuse after she ended their affair.
The father fronted Ipswich court for domestic violence this week.
The Queensland Times cannot legally name the man to protect the identity of the victim.
The Ipswich Magistrate Court heard the male began committing the crimes when she left him.
Magistrate Kinsella described the man’s actions as vindictive and nasty and noted he lacked the emotional maturity to deal with the break-up.
After failing to reconcile the relationship, the man began making violent threats despite a court order being in place.
“You told her she had no choice but to be your friend, if not you would make her family suffer in ways she couldn’t imagine,” Magistrate Kinsella said.
“This then escalated.
“You threatened to spend the rest of your life f—king her over…you said the way she was approaching things was such that she wanted you to put a bullet in her brain.”
The man also gave the woman’s personal contact details to an ex-partner of hers, facilitating the estranged man to engage in concerning conduct.
The woman grew more fearful as she noticed the man’s car continuously driving past her home.
The man’s pregnant wife and parents supported the man in court.
The court heard he was considered to be a ‘well-respected’ member of the community.
The man pleaded guilty to contravening a domestic violence order and using a carriage service to harass and menace and was placed on a 12 month good behavior bond and a six month probation order.
