IPSWICH could be in for a wet start to the New Year.
After a stormy weekend, the Bureau of Meteorology is warning Ipswich residents more storms could be on the way.
Showers are predicted today for New Year's Eve, but bureau forecaster Amber Young said they were likely to be west of Ipswich.
"It's going to be an interesting day," she said.
"There might be some very light morning showers ... but it's still quite unstable. We're still expecting further west of Ipswich some storm activity and that should get going into the afternoon.
"The winds in the upper atmosphere could potentially bring those storms towards the coast in the late afternoon to evening.
"(Rain on New Year's night) is a possibility, you wouldn't rule it out, but it's probably more likely to see a shower in the afternoon."
Ms Young said more rain was expected in the first days of the new year as temperatures began to rise once again.
According to BoM's longer-term outlook, Ipswich and the south-east corner can expect a dry first quarter of the year.
