Owners of a popular Ipswich shopping village are mere months away from opening the doors to a new “health, wellness, and services” hub, after plans for the centre’s expansion were approved by the local council.
Come August, Silkstone Village will feature a new two-storey building with medical centre, pharmacy, pathology, and allied health tenants.
A development application submitted by the centre’s owner ISPT Pty Ltd in late 2020 was granted in February last year, allowing for construction of 900 sqm of additional floor space at 73 Blackstone Rd, Cnr Grange Rd, Silkstone.
The new health hub tenants will join the Coles supermarket, eight speciality stores, and 275 car parks which already exist at the complex.
“ISPT is pleased to have increased the scale of our investment into the Silkstone Village precinct with this Health, Wellness and Services Hub,” the property group’s general manager Chris McCluskey said.
“We believe this will be a welcome addition to the fabric of this growing local community.”
The property group submitted a secondary development application to Ipswich City Council just this month, requesting minor design changes from the approved plans be allowed.
“Firstly, it is proposed that there is a minor shift in the approved built form to be approximately 300mm west,” the request read.
“The change also seeks to obtain approval for the relocation of the rear landscape area to be near the Level 1 stairs in order to facilitate the rear area to be used for mechanical plant.
“The relocation of the landscaped area will provide an increase visual appearance for the development as viewed from the parking and manoeuvring area and as such is considered a positive outcome for the site.”
Shade sails to the eastern carparking area and an ambulance bay and canopy roof to the west of the building were also proposed.
“The brand new, two-level, 893 sqm health, wellness, and services hub will drive Silkstone Village to be the leading one-stop destination for groceries, everyday goods and services in Silkstone,” a Silkstone Village statement read.
“ISPT have committed over $6 million investment into this modern development.”
Located two kilometres from the Ipswich CBD, Silkstone Village was acquired by ISPT in July 2016 and redeveloped in 2017.
