Serial Domestic Ipswich violence offender Paul Douglas Weymouth jailed for multiple bashings

An Ipswich man with a concerning history of domestic violence attacked his partner hours after being released from prison.

After being released from jail for assaulting his partner, it was only a matter of hours before an Ipswich man launched another violent attack on the woman.

Police prosecutor Nicholas Turnbull said Paul Douglas Weymouth was sentenced to two years jail in August 2021 for assaulting his partner.

“His criminal history is quite concerning and extremely relevant,” he said.

Sergeant Turnbull said Weymouth started calling a family member of the woman names and when she went to leave he grabbed her by the hair and after she fell to the ground he began punching and kicking her.

When the father of five was released from prison in December 2021, Sergeant Turnbull said he went to the woman’s Brassall home where he grabbed her from behind.

“He punched her to the ear/cheek bone area then grabbed her by the neck and dragged her into the garage,” he said.

Weymouth’s legal representative told the court although it’s not an excuse, the 40-year-old had been angry at his partner for spending money that he planned to pay for the funeral of his recently deceased grandson.

The court heard Weymouth had an extremely difficult upbringing and it was hard on him to be in jail and away from his daughter when his grandson died.

When on parole in 2019 Weymouth completed programs and counselling designed to stop men from committing acts of domestic violence.

Acting Magistrate Seaholm said Weymouth’s nine page criminal history was peppered with DV crimes and told the man there was never a reason to treat women in the manner he did.

Weymouth pleaded guilty to two charges of common assault, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment.

The dad’s licence will also be pulled for six months upon his release.

The sentence is to run concurrently with Weymouth’s previously imposed prison sentence.

Weymouth will be eligible for parole on May 28, 2022.
