An Ipswich dad on probation for dealing drugs was yet to learn his lesson fronting court for the second time in 2021 on drug charges.
A court heard Scott Bradley Palmer, 25, was on probation when he sold small and large amounts of marijuana for cash and swapped it for meth in 2019.
Crown prosecutor Andreas Galloway said the 25-year-old was sentenced to two years’ probation for drug charges in early 2021.
Mr Galloway said six of nine planned marijuana deals were actually carried out by the dad for cash and other drugs.
“He had a history of drug offending and continues to use drugs,” he said.
“He has recently tested positive for THC and seems to have made limited efforts to address his drug use.”
Palmer had told his legal counsel that he wasn’t using drugs anymore despite testing positive.
Defence barrister Cecelia Bernardin said the Ipswich raised man had a traumatic childhood and was active in the lives of his young daughters.
Ms Bernardin said Palmer had been dealing with drug “issues” since he was 14 to 15-years-old.
“He said he isn’t addicted and intends to cut himself off from it,” she said.
Judge Lynch said it sounded like Palmer was in denial about whether he had suffered from drug addiction or not.
“If you continue to use… you will breach your order and you will go to jail,” Judge Lynch said.
“You are not being a decent parent to your children by continuing to use drugs and committing offences.
“If you go in and out of jail chances are you won’t be around to raise those children.
“In the end it’s going to be a matter for you to do what’s necessary to stop using.”
Judge Lynch warned Palmer if he came back before the court for dealing he wasn’t going to get the same “sympathy”.
At the Ipswich District Court in December Palmer pleaded guilty to nine charges of supplying drugs and was sentenced to a 12 month suspended prison sentence and released on parole.
