A troubled Ipswich truck driver who rammed a motorcycle cop along the Gateway Mwy would often “hear voices” telling him to hurt people, a court has heard.

Riverview man Scott Alan Knight, 44, pleaded guilty in Brisbane District Court on Tuesday to dangerous operation of a vehicle with two prior convictions and acts intended to resist/prevent public officer from acting in accord with lawful authority.

The court heard Knight driving along the Gateway Mwy when he was stopped by a police officer for a licence check in Rochedale and he attempted to strike the officer with his vehicle by driving at him on May 9 last year.

Scott Alan Knight has been charged after allegedly ramming a motorcycle cop at Rochedale.

Knight struck the officer’s motorcycle and reversed back before accelerating again at the motorcycle.

The court heard that fortunately the police officer was not injured during the incident.

Knight’s lawyer told the court his client was a troubled child, was subject to abuse and has since been diagnosed with schizophrenia.

He said Knight tended to experience hallucinations and hear voices while using illicit drugs.

“It seems whenever he’s frustrated when he’s not in custody, he turns to the use of methamphetamine,” he said.

“He describes hearing voices which he tells him to hurt the person he’s frustrated with.”

He said Knight previously worked as a truck driver for a removal company.

The court heard he had an extensive 16-page criminal history that included two prior convictions of dangerous driving.

He was sentenced to four years imprisonment with a fixed parole eligibility date on December 28, 2022. He was also disqualified from driving for 12 months.
