Hundreds of Logan residents are coming to grips with massive storm damage this morning after a supercell and mini tornado sliced across south-western parts of the city on Tuesday afternoon.
Roofs have been ripped from homes, cars destroyed and trees uprooted with the damage bill expected to be millions of dollars.
The front gates of Woodridge State School was also smashed after a massive tree fell on it.
Residents were given little warning before the galeforce stormcell shredded through the city just after 5pm.
Residents are now bracing for more storms this afternoon.
Some residents were given warning through their insurance companies via text messages.
Logan City Council staff, the SES and Energex staff worked throughout the night after more than 14,000 properties were affected with power outages and structural damage.
SES reports that the affected area is small but the damage large with trees down and damage in Ash Avenue, Woodridge; and Garfield Rd and Charles Ave in Logan Central.
Residents from Logan Central said the noise of the tornado sounded like a freight train ripping through their lounge rooms.
Shoppers at Browns Plains Grand Plaza Shopping Centre reported the wind shredding through new shade sails on the top of the centre.
