ONE year on from the floods which tore the region apart, the people of the Lockyer Valley and Ipswich will pause today and tomorrow to remember.
Communities throughout the Lockyer Valley will remember the devastation and loss of life in a series of ceremonies.
Gatton will host the largest of the ceremonies at 9.30am today at the Lockyer Valley Cultural Centre.
The region will be visited by Prime Minister Julia Gillard, Governor General Quentin Bryce, State Premier Anna Bligh and State Governor Penelope Wensley who will attend the ceremony.
A service will also be held in two of the communities worst hit by the flooding, Grantham and Murphy's Creek.
The ceremony in Grantham will take place at 4pm today at the railway bridge, while the one in Murphy's Creek will start at 7pm.
Premier Bligh, who will also attend the Grantham service, said the past year had been tough for residents of the region.
"Queenslanders will never forget the loss and devastation caused by the floods of January 2011," she said.
"This week we will remember all of those who lost their lives and pay tribute to the remarkable fighting spirit of many Queenslanders who have overcome this tragedy to piece their lives back together."
Meanwhile Ipswich will be pausing to mark the anniversary of the tragedy tomorrow.
A ceremony will be held at Alf Harris Park, on the corner of Church and Queen streets in Goodna from 10am while a second service will be held at the River Heart Parklands on Bremer St in the CBD from 5.30pm.
