Region set for variety and fun

LIVE music and a "Mega Fun Splash Day" will be among the Australia Day celebrations in Lockyer and Brisbane Valley towns.

LIVE music and a "Mega Fun Splash Day" will be among the Australia Day celebrations in Lockyer and Brisbane Valley towns.

Celebrations will be held across the south-east with Gatton, Laidley, Esk, Lowood and Toogoolawah all holding ceremonies on January 26.

The ceremony in Gatton will include a kids' colouring in competition, face painting, a craft workshop and musician Rob Black live on stage at Lake Apex.

A bush band and a barbecue will also be held at the Gatton Historical Society Museum.

Laidley will be home to its own Australia Day ceremonies with a jumping castle, blacksmith demonstration and live music to be on show at the Laidley Pioneer Village Museum.

Lockyer Valley mayor Steve Jones said the celebrations were a mark of the hard work the people of the region had done over the past year.

"Here in the Valley there is one thing we know for sure, and that's the importance of being Australian," he said.

"To consider how far we as a community have come since Australia Day last year really is cause for celebration."

The Somerset region will welcome their newest citizens with a nationalisation ceremony to be held in the Esk Library following a breakfast at Pipeliner Park.

The Somerset Regional Council has urged residents wanting to attend the breakfast to book by Friday with limit spaces available.

The day won't be all sausages and citizenships, however, with a a "Mega Fun Splash Day" being held at the Lowood and Toogoolawah pools so people can escape the summer heat.

The day in the pool will include face painting, jumping castles, DJs as well as prizes and giveaways to celebrate the day.

Celebrations in the Scenic Rim will take place in Beaudesert, where a citizenship ceremony will welcome 23 new Australians.
