Ipswich’s population is booming, but there could be a dark side to its spectacular growth.

In the past year enough people to fill Beaudesert have moved to Ipswich and that huge influx of new residents year on year is only going to continue over the next two decades.

How this will affect the city’s crime rate remains to be seen.

Queensland Police data show the total number of offences reported in the Ipswich police district in the past year was 19,413.

There were 22,086 crimes in the previous 12 months, from September 2019 to September 2020.

Using that same data, we can reveal the most dangerous and the safest suburbs in Ipswich over the last year.

It should be no surprise some of the city’s most densely-populated areas have recorded the highest number of offences.

A new $25 million police station will be built in the ever-expanding Ripley to service the high-growth area.

A new station in Ripley has been earmarked for several years to house the Ipswich district’s headquarters, away from outdated facilities at Yamanto.

As of March 31, there were 461 approved police officers stationed across the Ipswich district.

As part of the State Government’s commitment to hire an extra 2025 police personnel over the next five years, at least 150 will be based within the southern region which includes the Ipswich district.

Here’s Ipswich’s crime hot spots and safest suburbs for the past 12 months.
