A puppy has been reunited with its owner five months after a 21-year-old man allegedly tricked him into selling the dog by paying with a fake bank transfer.

Police alleged a man advertised the Husky puppy on a buy and sell platform and chatted with someone he thought was a genuine buyer.

The buyer allegedly then created a fake bank transfer and presented it to the seller.

The seller arranged for transport of the puppy over a considerable distance, leaving the breeder unpaid and not knowing the puppy’s true new home and owners.

The puppy was recovered and reunited with its owner after the alleged fraud.

A 21-year-old Inala man was charged with obtaining property by deception.

He is due to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on December 10.

Leading into Christmas, police have reminded people to be careful with paying for goods online, to divulge personal information only to trusted parties and immediately delete any photographs taken of identity documents.
