A trio, including a father and son, have been sentenced after the assault of two men at a party in a rural Queensland town last year.

Ranee Tillack, 24, friend Jay Nolan, 23, and his father Anthony Nolan, 52, all pleaded guilty in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on December 16 to assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed/in company and Nolan was also charged with one count of common assault.

The court heard that on June 11, 2021, Tillack and Jay Nolan attended a gathering at a neighbouring property at Helidon in the Lockyer Valley, where attendees were all drinking.

When they became noisy, one of the victims asked them to leave the property, resulting in an argument where young Nolan punched the victim in the face.

The victim then punched back and the second victim attempted to intervene.

The pair then left the property, only to return with Anthony Nolan a short time later, where a physical altercation reignited and Tillack started a verbal spat, calling one of the victims a “fat-dog woman basher”, the court heard.

Tillack then struck the second victim in the head causing him to lose consciousness, while the Nolan’s stood by.

Tillack had been out on parole for a separate offence for only three days when the incident occurred.

Anthony Nolan had historically been involved in several assaults in the 1980s and another in 2015, while his son Jay Nolan had no relevant history of violence, the prosecution indicated it suggested he was someone who “behaves poorly when he is intoxicated with alcohol”.

Tillack was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment suspended for an operational period of two years, having previously served 70 days in presentence custody and a conviction was recorded.

Anthony Nolan was sentenced to nine months imprisonment, suspended for an operational period of 12 months and a conviction was recorded.

Jay Nolan was sentenced to 12 months probation and no conviction was recorded.
