A drug-using truck driver has fronted a southeast Queensland court for filming his sexual relations with a teenage girl.

He had also choked his own father unconscious on three occasions for the same “bizarre” reason each time.

Lawnton dad Elliot Shane Thomas Bickle, 40, pleaded guilty in Ipswich District Court on December 7, 2023, to three counts of strangulation (DV), two of fraud, and one of possessing dangerous drugs.

He had previously entered guilty pleas for one count each of making child exploitation material and carnal knowledge with children under 16.

The court heard Bickle had filmed himself having sexual relations with a teenage girl, who was not related to him.

Police found the incriminating video on Bickle’s phone when they searched his home last August.

Judge Alexander Horneman Wren said the girl had seemingly consented to the relations.

He noted that the discovery of Bickle’s “despicable conduct” came after Bickle had strangled his own father.

He had done so on two occasions in early 2022 – on the second occasion strangling him twice.

Judge Horneman Wren said Bickle had done so not out of the usual “uncontrolled anger”.

He had instead strangled him purposefully each time until the older man fell unconscious, so that Bickle could take keys to access his safe.

Judge Horneman Wren said this was “highly dangerous” conduct and noted “you’d probably need biceps the size of Mr Bickle to do it”.

Mr Bickle was notably a larger man, with a scorpion tattooed on his left forearm.

He had previously been jailed in 2013 for an offence of armed robbery with personal violence.

The court heard he had worked primarily as a truck driver, but relapsed into opioid use prior to his offending against his father.

He had engaged in the suboxone drug rehabilitation program while in custody on remand for these charges.

Judge Horneman Wren noted Bickle’s mother and young son both lived in Townsville, where Bickle hoped to relocate after his release.

The court heard Bickle no longer had any relationship with either his father or the teenage girl.

Judge Horneman Wren sentenced Bickle to three years jail for the strangulations with immediate parole release.

Bickle was also sentenced to 471 days imprisonment for the child sex offences, to be suspended for 471 days after Bickle spent 470 days in actual custody.

His 470 days in presentence custody were declared time served for all offences, meaning he would be released on parole immediately with one day of a suspended sentence left to hang over his head.
