A Logan butcher has faced court for a series of “thoroughly reprehensible” domestic violence offences committed against his parents and ex-partner.

Bethania resident Jason Andrew Turner, 38, pleaded guilty in Ipswich District Court on October 20, 2023, to domestic violence offending including assault occasioning bodily harm, enter dwelling and commit an indictable offence, unlawful stalking, unlawful stalking (using/threatening violence), and unlawful use of motor vehicles.

The court heard Turner committed the offences throughout 2022, against his parents and former partner.

In the late hours of July 8, he entered his parents’ house and stole a safe containing four sets of car and motorcycle keys, along with personal items including war medals that belonged to his father and grandfather.

The next day, he messaged his father “want your safe back? Pay my wages plus interest of $1000”.

Turner then stalked his mother over the next two weeks through repeated calls and messages.

On July 19, he threatened his mum that he would “light a fuel cap and light it up with [his ex-partner] inside”.

He was interviewed by police later that month and granted bail.

Then in October and November, he stalked his ex-partner and sent messages threatening to smash her car windows and break into her house to get his jumper.

On the evening of November 14, Turner went to her house and demanded she take him to hospital or rehab.

She tried to run away but he chased her and dragged her into a car, causing scratching and bruising.

She tried to escape again but Turner grabbed her, pushed her head into the concrete footpath, bit her hand, and twisted her wrist.

Police located Turner afterwards at a local hospital’s mental health unit, and he was remanded in custody until his sentence.

Judge Alexander Horneman-Wren noted the war medals were never recovered and asked Turner if he knew there whereabouts now, but he did not.

“What a horrible thing to deprive your father of perhaps a medal of his own and others won by his father” Judge Horneman-Wren said.

Defence barrister Scott Neaves said Turner had a limited criminal history, considering his challenging upbringing.

The court heard Turner had some longstanding mental health issues and had been consuming large amounts of meth at the time of the offending.

But Mr Neaves said Turner’s time in custody had had a significant effect on him, and that Turner did not intend to return to jail again.

Turner was sentenced to two and a half years imprisonment with immediate parole release.

His 330 days in presentence custody were declared time-served.
