Ipswich’s Ngor Ngor in court over Surfers Paradise stabbing

An Ipswich man has faced court for his alleged involvement in a stabbing that occurred in the heart of the Gold Coast over the weekend.

A second man has appeared in court on after a stabbing occurred in the heart of Gold Coast over the weekend.

Ngor Ngor, 23, from Augustine Heights in Ipswich, faced Ipswich Magistrates Court on Wednesday, July 17, represented by defence lawyer Kristy Bell.

Mr Ngor charged with one count of acts intended to maim and one count of driving a motor vehicle without a driver’s licence.

Ms Bell said the matter would need to be transferred to Southport, where the incident allegedly occurred.

She said Mr Ngor would not be making an application for bail at this stage.

The matter was adjourned for mention at Southport Magistrates’ Court on 15 August.

Mr Ngor was remanded in custody and would not be required to appear on that day.

Earlier this week, police alleged an altercation occurred between a group of people outside a barber’s shop on Orchid Ave in Surfers Paradise about 2.30am on Sunday, July 14.

Palm Beach man Daniel Condon, 20, sustained a significant and life-threatening stab wound and was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital.

Three people allegedly left the scene in a black Holden Commodore before police arrived.

Mr Ngor was arrested in Augustine Heights about 10am on Monday, July 15.

He faced court via video link on Tuesday, July 16, with no lawyer representing him.

“The watch house told me they’ll give me a new lawyer,” he said.

Acting Magistrate Paul Byrne said one of Mr Ngor’s charges was indictable.

“There probably isn’t much you can do between now and tomorrow because of the particular seriousness,” he said.

“It’s really going to go up to a higher court and if it goes up to a higher court, that means it’s going to be a bit of a slow process.

“If it’s a bit of a slow process, that means you’re probably going to want to apply for bail.

“However, on a charge as serious as that, bail is not very easy to get.

“You would be insane if you try to run this on your own without the assistance of a lawyer, so I strongly urge you to see the duty lawyer tomorrow.”

Mr Byrne adjourned the matter to Wednesday, July 17 and ordered the defendant be remanded in custody.

An alleged co-offender, Manyang Manyang, 21, from Victoria, was released on bail after appearing in Southport Magistrates Court on Monday, July 15 on charges of acts intended to maim and committing public nuisance.
