An Ipswich couple has been charged after a man was allegedly held against his will at an Ipswich home for five days last month.

Police are still investigating other people who might be involved.

West Ipswich residents Bo Keven Shayler, 33 and Lauren Jane Droste, 36, were each charged with one count of deprivation of liberty, extortion, common assault, stealing and attempted fraud.

Court documents reveal the offences were all alleged to have occurred in May at Mr Shayler’s Omar St, West Ipswich home.

It was alleged the couple, whom the court heard were in a casual relationship at the time, held a man against his will between May 25 and 29.

They were also alleged to have stolen the man’s property including Australian currency, a gold necklace, wallet, mobile phone, bank cards, ID, material, clothing and earphones.

Mr Shayler was separately charged with one count of possessing dangerous drugs (methylamphetamine) on May 30.

Mr Shayler has not made any application for bail. He is presently remanded in custody for an Ipswich Magistrates’ Court mention on June 23.

Ms Droste made an application for bail in Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on June 1.

Defence lawyer Chris O’Neill said his client had “found herself in a situation ultimately where she had little control over what was happening”.

He said she had four children and was engaging in drug counselling.

Police prosecutor Bridie O’Shea said she understood police were still trying to find two other alleged co-offenders.

Ms Droste was granted bail. Her matter was adjourned for mention on June 23.

A Queensland Police spokesperson confirmed on June 7 that investigations were still ongoing into other individuals who may be involved.
