Confronting audio recorded shortly after a man was stabbed five times in Ipswich at the weekend has been revealed in court.

Police referred to the audio, captured as part of CCTV recordings in Goodna on Sunday, March 10, in court today as 18-year-old Goodna man Kennedy Wani faced one count of acts intended to maim or disfigure.

The charge relates to five stab wounds allegedly sustained by a 38-year-old man who was tended to by emergency services at a Caldwell St address Sunday.

Ipswich Magistrates Court heard a male voice was captured on CCTV audio recording the night of the attack saying “I stabbed him, I stabbed him” on Lightbody St — the same street the alleged attacker, Mr Wani, was later located near.

During proceedings, Magistrate Jason Schubert said camera footage obtained from a Lightbody Street address had captured a conversation that night in which one individual asked “Kennedy, where are you?”.

He said a male voice replied “I stabbed him, I stabbed him”.

The court heard a female voice then asked “Kennedy, why?” before the male voice responded “he started me”.

The 38-year old man was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Mr Wani made an application for bail in Ipswich Magistrates Court on March 12.

Mr Schubert said police would allege Mr Wani had stabbed the man five times in the chest and upper back with a large survival knife.

Mr Schubert said the case against Mr Wani appeared strong, as the victim had identified his assailant as “Kennedy”.

He had also described Kennedy to be of African appearance, which Mr Schubert noted matched Mr Wani’s appearance.

Mr Schubert said Mr Wani posed an unacceptable risk of committing further offences and refused his bail.

Mr Wani was remanded in custody for next mention on April 5.
