An Ipswich man charged with the murder of his girlfriend will have a long wait ahead of him in custody as the prosecution prepares a “voluminous” case against him, a court has heard.
Michael Kurt Pringle, 21, of Dinmore, is charged with one count of murder (DV) in relation to the death of his girlfriend Krystle Monks.
Mr Pringle has been remanded in custody since his arrest in February after a five-day investigation into the death.
Ms Monks died in hospital after she was found collapsed on the floor of a Bundamba home.
Police alleged Mr Pringle initially told them his girlfriend had suffered head injuries after falling off a bed.
He might have a long wait ahead of him before he hears the full extent of evidence.
The Ipswich Magistrates’ Court heard at a mention today (May 12) that the prosecution had already gathered a “voluminous” brief of evidence for the case.
However, a DNA statement was still expected to take another six months to prepare.
The court heard a pathologist’s report would also take at least 12 months.
Magistrate Dennis Kinsella noted this meant Mr Pringle would be “sitting in custody for at least 12 months before we even get to a committal”.
He adjourned the matter for further mention on August 4.
Mr Pringle was remanded in custody until then.
