Bellbird Park mum Sarah Janine Green faces Ipswich court for hunting down, assaulting prison associate

A paroled Ipswich mum spent less than a week back in the community before being locked up again after “hunting down” a prison associate. A court heard she subjecting the victim to a terrifying attack in which she was beaten with a pole.

An Ipswich mum has been granted immediate parole eligibility after a court heard how she tracked down a former prison associate and assaulted her on the same day she was granted parole.

Bellbird Park mum-of-two Sarah Janine Green, 35, pleaded guilty in Ipswich District Court on December 15 to assault occasioning bodily harm, enter dwelling with intent while armed/in company and assault occasioning bodily harm while armed/in company.

Crown prosecutor Alex Baker said Green assaulted a former prison associate on two occasions last December.

She said Green had been released on parole on December 7 and met with the woman the same day.

The pair argued and Green punched her in the face, the court heard.

Ms Baker said the more serious offending occurred on December 11.

Green asked the other woman to move Green’s car to help her avoid the police.

But the woman had taken the car to a different location than requested.

Ms Baker said the woman was then “hunted down at the behest of Ms Green”.

The woman hid in a bedroom at an Ipswich home, but the court heard a group of men came to the house looking for her and the car.

Ms Baker said the woman fell in and out of sleep before waking up in the bedroom surrounded by eight people, including Green.

She said Green then assaulted the woman and also instructed another person, who was armed with a pole, to assault her too.

The woman suffered a broken nose and bruising to her eyes and forearm.

Green was taken back into custody two days later and attempted to “minimise” her involvement when interviewed by police, Ms Baker said.

She said it was concerning that Green “immediately fell into quite serious crime” after her release on parole.

“Ms Green has served a lot of the last seven years in custody, which is a mess of her own making,” Ms Baker said.

The court heard Green would still be serving a lengthy period of imprisonment until March 19, 2025, for two cumulative trafficking offences.

Ms Baker said judge Dennis Lynch might consider moderating the new sentence, as it would need to be cumulative upon those former sentences.

Defence barrister Dan Boddice said his client had had a good upbringing and performed well in school, but had fallen into addiction after being introduced to drugs by a former partner.

Mr Boddice said Green had engaged with drug rehabilitation programs and completed a number of certificates during her recent period in custody.

He said she intended to work in the mines after her release and resume care of her two children – aged 17 and two.

Judge Lynch warned Green that he saw a “remarkably high number” of defendants whose children “follow them into the same lifestyle”.

“You’re old enough not to need a lecture from me,” he told her.

“If you haven’t worked out what the problem is at this point, then there’s probably not much point in me saying anything.”

Judge Lynch sentenced Green to two and a half years jail.

Noting this would extend her full-time expiry date until September 2027, he granted her immediate parole eligibility.
