A man has faced court and a two-year-old girl is being “pampered” with toys and chocolate after an alleged violent carjacking attempt in Ipswich at the weekend.

A two-year-old girl is being “pampered” with toys and chocolate after she was allegedly caught up in a violent carjacking attempt in Ipswich at the weekend.
The toddler, who cannot be named, escaped harm after, police allege, Jake Jefferson Peters, 25, tried to pull her from her car seat at a coffee shop Saturday afternoon.
The Albion man faced court today over the alleged armed holdup at Zarraffa’s coffee drive-through.
He was charged with 13 offences including three counts each of assault occasioning bodily harm while armed and one count each of attempted armed robbery and deprivation of liberty.
He was also charged with three counts of enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence and individual counts of attempted enter dwelling with intent, failing to dispose of a needle, obstructing police, possessing dangerous drugs and stealing.
A Queensland Police spokesperson said police would allege Mr Peters approached a 41-year-old Bundamba woman while she was at a Zarraffa’s drive-through in Booval at around 3.30pm on April 1.
It is alleged he was armed with a knife and that he attempted to steal her car, before she ran into the store.
The spokesperson said a 25-year-old East Ipswich father was parked at the nearby Shell Coles Express service station and attempted to intervene.
Police will allege Mr Peters then tried to steal the father’s car, attempting to remove the little girl who was sitting in the back seat.
Police say members of the public came to assist, as Mr Peters and the father engaged in a physical altercation.
A police spokesman said Mr Peters allegedly hid under the car, before entering the Zarraffa’s and allegedly stealing items and later being arrested.
The woman, man and child each sustained minor injuries and were taken to Ipswich Hospital.
At court today, the little girl’s grandmother sat in the gallery, hoping to face Mr Peters however, Mr Peters was told his presence was not needed in the courtroom.
“I just wanted to see his [Peters’] face,” the grandmother told The Queensland Times.
Mr Peters made no application for bail and was remanded in custody for mention on May 29 at Richlands Magistrates Court.
