Players of the future feature in live streamed Broncos Old Boys decider

Whatever the result against the powerful Marsden side, the second-placed Ipswich State High team will return home proud of their 2021 progress. Tuesday’s grand final is being live streamed.

As a former premiership-winning Ipswich Jets state league player, Josh Seage recognises promising talent when he sees it.

He was one of the Jets most consistent forwards during his 57 game career which included sharing in Ipswich’s 2015 state league and NRL Championship grand final victories.

As an Ipswich State High teacher and coach these days, Seage enjoys encouraging the next generation of young footballers.

That’s why Tuesday’s Broncos Old Boys year 7 grand final at Carina is so important.

Whatever the result against the powerful Marsden side, the second-placed Ipswich State High team will return home proud of their 2021 progress.

“Marsden are a really good team but our boys deserve to be in the grand final,’’ Seage said. “They are definitely the top two teams in the state.

“Just across the park, from 1-17, every player knows their role and they are really talented and they are happy to do whatever is needed for the team.

“The boys really need to believe in themselves, put in a really good performance and be happy how they played and how the season has gone overall.

“I’m more than happy with the side I’ve got.’’

Tuesday’s 2pm grand final is being live streamed on the QT website as part of News Corp’s ongoing coverage of schoolboy rugby league.

Seage, who also coaches at the Jets, has been working with Ipswich State High teams for the past few years.

“It’s just making sure they enjoy their football and knowing the grand final is important but they have a lot of football left and they should be aiming to go on,’’ he said.

He knows Marsden will be a tough opponent with their athletic ability, strength and skills. The team also has a number of state under-12 representatives.

However, the Ipswich coach is excited about the emerging talent in his team.

Five-eight MacGuinness Tiananga made the Queensland under-12 team this year.

Halfback and captain TJ Sauaso is rising up the ranks like his brother Samson who played in Ipswich State High’s open team this year.

Hooker Jaylen Naleba is a vital member of the team, playing for Easts in Brisbane.

Seage said lock Brendon Bruce was Ipswich’s best player before he missed out on the team’s 12-10 semi-final win over Wavell.

Bruce is back for the grand final, having recovered from his shoulder injury a few weeks ago.

The team’s other earlier wins were over Forest Lake 54-0, Redcliffe 26-16, Stretton 44-10, Keebra 16-6 and Palm Beach 24-0.

Ipswich State High lost 28-22 to Wavell and Tuesday’s opponents Marsden 44-4 in the lead-up to the finals.

“The Marsden loss was the last game of the season and I was missing three players so I think it will be much closer this time,’’ Seage said.

The Ipswich State High year 7 team is: Tiyrell Wood-Sneddon, Iverson Inu, Wiremu Karaitiani, Viliamu Seumalii, Brayden Pearce, MacGuinness Tiananga, TJ Sauaso, Lincoln Natapu, Jaylan Naleba, Innocent Baruani, John-Williams Levi, Spaniyon Gray, Brendon Bruce, Rohan Smith, Christian Tulifau, Bryce Epati, Chris Compton and Ross Vunipola.

Seage said another positive was Ipswich State High looking to build on its partnership with Kruger Primary School.

This year’s Ipswich State High grand final side has seven players from Kruger.

The grand final players are expected to wear old Broncos style jerseys to enhance the occasion.

Ipswich State High’s NRL Schoolboys Cup, Langer Reserves and Walters Cup sides made semi-finals this season.
