A 15-YEAR plan for the future of the Scenic Rim has been adopted.
The Scenic Rim Regional Council approved the Scenic Rim Community Plan 2011-2026 at a council meeting this week after 12 months of input and discussion.
The plan will act as a guide to council actions on infrastructure, the economy, the environment and social wellbeing.
It strongly identified the Scenic Rim as a rural area, stating its industries required council and community support.
"Our rural industries face threats from urban encroachment, mining, floods, drought and competition for water supplies as well as changing markets and economic conditions," it reads.
"Rural industry is vital to our economy, lifestyle and landscape and requires our support."
Scenic Rim Mayor John Brent said the plan had gone through extensive community consultation before being adopted.
"The community has spoken and together we have mapped out a vision for the future," he said.
"The messages are clear - look after our environment, enhance rural lifestyle, improve roads and public transport, strengthen farms and create local jobs.
"Each town, village and rural area in the Scenic Rim is unique and we treasure these differences, but no matter whether we live in Tarome, Tamrookum, Tamborine or Trabragalba, we all share the same regional vision.
"Our community sees a strong future for our region with farms providing local food, tourism and creative industries working alongside clean industry at Bromelton, main streets with character and green corridors."
According to the plan, residents of the Scenic Rim are proud of the environment they live in, but concerned about its future and the impact mining may have on it.
The council said it had held more than 60 consultation activities including surveys, displays at markets and shows and meetings with the community.
