I STARTED to get excited yesterday after I realised that my daughter's last ever school fee payment had been deducted from my account.
Thankfully my daughter's journey through primary and high school is set to end in just a month's time.
Unfortunately someone brought me crashing back to earth when they started telling me about how much their teenager was costing them going through university.
It seems I was getting bargain basement rates while she was in high school and now the real financial pain was about to begin.
It's not that I begrudge paying for my daughter's education, it's just that I was looking forward to adding some extra dollars to the weekly entertainment budget.
While I realise that she can park her university fees until she starts work, the real pain to come revolves around a car.
Even though she has a month to go before she sits for her licence, I am getting regular texts asking me to look at the latest suitable car she has found.
Fortunately we have now bartered down from a $35,000 Jeep to a $5000 second-hand machine.
Quite frankly I don't even know how we got to the $5000 mark, I was thinking more about an annual bus pass.
If she does drop out of university I do know one thing, she'll make a great salesperson.
