Getting to the bottom of the cage egg debate

Do you honestly believe something we were meant to eat would come out of a female's bottom?

READERS discussed the pros and cons of free range eggs versus cage eggs (QT 13/1).

But does anyone ever stop to think about whether we should be eating eggs in the first place?

What are birds eggs designed for? Certainly not for food.

They are part of the reproductive process. The jelly, membrane and albumin-filled sac is where a chick embryo develops. And they come out of a hens bottom.

Do you honestly believe something we were meant to eat would come out of a female's bottom?

Of course, if we could eat eggs and not cause suffering to chickens, there'd be no harm in eating them. But this is not the case.

All commercial egg producers kill all male chicks by mincing them up alive or gassing them. And all hens meet the same cruel, terrifying and agonising death.

Give cruelty the flick by saying no to all eggs.
