From public hospitals to a glamping destinations, factories and fast food, new developments are popping up everywhere in Ipswich as investors look to the city for its enormous projected population growth.
One of the most recently announced developments was a hospital for boom-suburb South Ripley.
The State Government recently confirmed a 6.7-acre block of land on Barrams Rd in the Providence housing estate would soon be home to the new health centre.
The centre will be among seven satellite hospitals to be opened across southeast Queensland.
The State Government said it expected the hospital to be operating by the 2022-23 financial year.
Upgrades to Ipswich Hospital are also on the cards as well as a hospital for another of the city’s highest growth suburbs, Springfield.
The 174-bed public hospital has been backed by the masterplanned suburb’s developers and is set to include emergency and maternity services.
The hospital is anticipated to open in 2024 and will be located next door to the existing Mater Private Hospital.
In the manufacturing world, an Ipswich business has changed hands after 50 years.
Nearly 200 workers lost their jobs when the Bradken foundry closed.
The former Bradken foundry in Karrabin is set to begin a new chapter after selling to Dalby company White Industries.
Specialising in fabricating metals and manufacturing, White Industries is the largest privately-owned foundry group in Australia.
The foundry is set to reopen under new owners White Industries in the final three months of 2021.
Development of a service station complete with a car wash and drive-through food outlets has been given the go-ahead in the city’s north.
It is set to be built at Chuwar on the already congested Mount Crosby Rd, across the road from the existing Shell service station.
The project has received significant backlash from the community, with some arguing it will cause further traffic dramas at an already overloaded and at-times dangerous Warrego Highway interchange.
Plans for the service station include a car wash, dog wash facilities, and fast food outlets.
Campers seeking a touch of luxury will soon have a new destination to pitch their tent.
Plans for an “eco-tourism” spot spanning more than 1616 hectares at Grandchester have been given the green light, four years after the proposal was lodged with Ipswich City Council.
Boutique hotel chain Spicers Retreats owner Jude Turner is behind the idea and plans to develop a “glamping” site, complete with grass tent areas, semi-permanent glamping structures and communal use eco facilities.
The Bubbling Springs project will be delivered across several stages, including one in which existing hiking trails will be extended by 20km.
A camping and caravan park including 60 campsites, three group sites accommodating eight individual tents per site, and eight permanent “eco tents”, are in the plans.
Weddings, birthdays and other celebrations will be able to take place on site, once the development realises its final form.
In late stages a cafe, restaurant, function area, bike shed, first aid room and shop will be added to the site.
