Even after a massive week overseeing the latest Queensland championships, Karley Bryce was still bubbling with excitement.
Bryce declared she was the proudest club president in Ipswich.
Having watched more than 1300 riders share in spectacular racing and activities at the Willey Park circuit, the Ipswich BMX Club official was glowing in praise for everyone involved.
“We are absolutely stoked with how it went,’’ she said.
“We couldn’t be more happy with how everything went.’’
The week of pre-meet racing, practice and various competition events culminated in Saturday’s major elite and superclass divisions as part of the latest Auscycling Queensland BMX State Championships.
Having Ipswich chosen as a host venue was a huge achievement in itself.
However, Bryce was delighted how well her club team, volunteers, riders and supporters united during the week.
“Everything went to plan,’’ she said. “We got brilliant numbers.
“We were very, very blessed in Queensland to be even able to hold an event . . . without the huge amount of restrictions and other states have.
“That in itself was obviously a stress that we had but it all come to fruition which was awesome so we were very, very lucky to have the people that we were able to have there and the event go ahead.’’
Ipswich club officials and their helpers needed a bit of extra time on Sunday to finish after a hectic Saturday program.
“We had grand plans that we’d have it all tidied up by Saturday night but we got to about eight o’clock and we just looked around and went ‘we’re buggered’,’’ she said.
With another successful state titles complete, Bryce was thrilled with what Ipswich achieved.
“I couldn’t be happier with how my club, my team, my committee,’’ she said.
“Everybody pulled together and just pulled off an amazing event for everybody.’’
The club president said the extra demands of running a major state event were worth it with riders aged 14-19 helping out each morning with a range of duties from the canteen to cleaning amenities in between competing.
“As an adult that was just amazing to see,’’ she said.
The Ipswich club was represented by 100 riders with a number making semi and quarter finals.
Among the star performers were international competitor Matt Krasevskis, Shanequa “Sharni’’ Timperley and Holyee-Ann Jackson.
Krasevskis finished second in the superclass after being pushed back due a crash.
Timperley finished third in the 14 years girls class and was chosen to deliver the riders oath at the opening ceremony.
“That was very special for her and special for us,’’ Bryce said.
Jackson won state titles in the 12 years girls class and 11-12 years cruiser class.
Bryce said the track upgraded five weeks before the championships performed superbly.
“It held up brilliantly,’’ the club president said.
“We had a new company come through and do our track and it was really good for them to have the feedback that they get as well.
“For us to have the feedback that we made the right decision as well.
“All in all, we were really, really happy with how everything went.’’
Regular Friday night club meets and racing will resume after the school holidays.
The Ipswich club is also hosting a come and try day on October 9.
