A MAN was rushed to hospital covered in burns after an explosion at his Ironbark home on Tuesday night.

Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics were called to attend a blast at the home on Ironbark Rd north of Blacksoil on Tuesday afternoon, with a 60-year-old man suffering burns to the front of his body.

He had burns to more than 18% of his body and was taken to the Royal Brisbane Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

According to the ambulance service the explosion was caused by an "exploding carb fuelled by petrol".

The man suffered fuel burns to his face, head and feet, second degree burns and airway complications from the blast.

Members of the family declined to comment to The Queensland Times, but described the incident as an accident.

He remains in the Royal Brisbane Hospital in a stable condition.
