A MAN allegedly struck another man in the head repeatedly with a claw hammer while they were locked in a car.

Foaga Fuimaono, 25, is on trial at the Ipswich District Court for stealing and assault occasioning bodily harm while armed after he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The court heard that about 4pm on a Tuesday in June last year Fuimaono phoned a man he knew through touch football to confront him about a relationship he had with a woman.

The man caught the train to the Goodna station where he met Fuimaono at a car parked on Woogaroo St near the Evan Marginson Oval.

There, the court heard, Fuimaono told him to sit in the back seat of the car.

According to the Crown, Fuimaono then accused the man of being in a relationship with his former partner, stole his mobile phone and began to assault him.

The victim, who testified in court yesterday, told the court Fuimaono punched him and hit him with the claw end of a hammer.

After being struck repeatedly in the head, the man told the court he tried to get out of the car, but found the child locks on the door were activated and he couldn't get out.

Eventually the woman they were arguing over arrived at the car and opened the door, allowing the alleged victim to escape.

The court heard he then ran into the Goodna train station where he found a QR staff member who called the police and ambulance. He was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with cuts, bruises and lacerations to his head. The court was shown CCTV footage of a man, who the victim identified as himself, running, with blood on his head, into the station.
