Lowood talent wins rock title

MORE than 60 Lowood students have danced their way to a second successive Rock Eisteddfod title.

The students from Lowood State High School took out the Raw Division earlier this month.

The school won the same title in 2009 before the Rock Eisteddfod was cancelled in 2010.

Lowood State High School dance and drama teacher and performance choreographer Kristie-Lee Doyle said the win was a tribute to the hard work put in by the students and staff of the school.

“Students were extremely well behaved and have done the school proud,” she said.

“They were a really dedicated and committed group, and on the day all worked together to help each other get ready with hair and make-up. It was a pleasure to work with them all and I was proud of all their efforts.”

The performance, titled Keys to the Future, was a road safety themed performance that took out six different awards.

The performance highlighted the dangers a new P-plater was presented with, while concentrating on the benefits of responsible decisions.

Miss Doyle said the school had received huge support from the community.

“It truly was an event that the community got involved in and without their support it would not have been possible,” Miss Doyle said.

Awards for excellence of concept, excellence for creative information, soundtrack, costuming character, excellence for environmental and social awareness and excellence for school initiative were all given to Lowood’s routine.

The school had more students involved than ever before, with 62 students.
