The 37-year-old man was allegedly stabbed by Stephen Doyle, 38, at a party in Fitzroy Street, Nanango, north-west of Esk, about 6pm on Saturday.

Queensland Police have not yet released the dead man's name.

Residents of Laidley were stunned as news of the death filtered through the country town yesterday.

Police claim the two men were involved in a fight at a private party before the Laidley man was stabbed.

They said a number of people initially had been involved in the altercation.

Police allege Doyle, of Nanango, armed himself with a knife before stabbing the 37-year-old once in the chest.

The victim died while he was being transported to the Nanango hospital.

Doyle was arrested and charged with murder on Sunday morning.

He appeared in the Kingaroy Magistrates Court yesterday afternoon, where the case was adjourned.

He will next appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.

While the man's death was being discussed throughout Laidley yesterday, no one contacted by The Queensland Times could confirm his identity.
