A Lockyer Valley man has been arrested and charged with failing to comply with Queensland Health Covid-19 health provisions after an incident on Thursday.
Kyle David George Reed, 30, from Summerholm, spent Thursday night held in the Ipswich police watch-house.
His matter was briefly mentioned on Friday before Ipswich Magistrates Court.
The Summerholm resident was 25km from his home when police spoke to him in Gatton – well outside the 10km travel ban imposed in the latest lockdown
Reed pleaded guilty to one count that he failed to comply with Covid-19 public health directions at Gatton on Thursday August 5; and being in possession of drug utensils.
He was fined $800. No conviction was recorded.
The Queensland Times can reveal Reed was earlier issued with two infringement notices for breaching Covid directions.
Darling Downs city Patrol Acting Inspector Greg Wheeler said police located Reed at an address in Gatton several days before he was arrested.
Insp. Wheeler said police issued a $1378 fine for failing to comply with Covid-19 public health direction from the Chief Health Officer.
Despite the fine Reed was picked up by police the next day at an address in Gatton, police have confirmed.
Again his reason for travel was deemed non-essential, and he was issued a second fine.
When police found him at a third address in Gatton on Thursday they arrested him.
“It was deemed he was a risk to the community,” Insp. Wheeler said.
“He was taking no notice of the chief health officer’s direction.”
