Karmichael Hunt kicks goals as USQ graduate, valedictorian

Former Broncos premiership winner Karmichael Hunt was one of 300 USQ Ipswich graduates to don a cap and gown this week as he celebrated completing a Bachelor of Science.

Veteran footy star Karmichael Hunt is one of the University of Southern Queensland’s newest graduates and valedictorians, this week accepting his diploma and delivering a moving speech at the Ipswich Civic Centre.

The 34-year-old father of four celebrated completing a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) with his family and fellow graduates at a ceremony on Wednesday evening.

He thanked his loved ones, including his wife and eldest daughter who were in the audience, for their support while he had been “stressed out” with assignment duties and overloaded with work duties.

“If not for your unconditional support, love, kindness, patience, and comfort, graduating today would not have been possible,” he said.

The Broncos legend said he had been going through “some difficult times” when he first decided to enrol in a tertiary preparation program at USQ, and he was excited to enter the next, most important, chapter of his life.

He is now embarking on a Master of Research in the sport psychology field at USQ.

“I have a rich history in sport and to be able to learn the theory behind the psychology of sport performance in athletes is the direction I want to head,” he said.

Mr Hunt briefly returned to the Brisbane Broncos earlier this year after a stint in rugby union and in the AFL, playing his first NRL game in nearly 12 years in June.

He now plays for Brisbane club the South Logan Magpies.
