THE Ipswich Junior Eisteddfod took a silent turn on Friday as some of Ipswich youngest mime artists performed.

The mimes were one of a range or young performers to grace the stage of the Lockyer Room in the Ipswich Civic Centre.

A group of young speakers performed an impromptu reading of a piece entitled Summer Drivebacks.

Telling the tale of a family day trip to a child's grandmother's more than 10 under nines gave their own take on the given story, having only seen it moments before performing.

The day also included the presentation of poems in pairs, character recitals, dialogues and Shakespearean recitals.

Friday was the final day of the speech and drama section of Ipswich Junior Eisteddfod.

The week of performances at the eisteddfod was wrapped up by the Shakespearean recitals, Australian bush verse and the recital of Rachel Field's Something Told the Wild Geese and The Goldfield by Bill Scott.

The dance eisteddfod will kick off next Wednesday at the Ipswich Civic Centre.
